Will I find snow in June in Switzerland?

Short summary – read this first

Shahbaz Alam and his wife are planning a trip to Switzerland for 5 nights from Dublin, arriving on June 20 and leaving on June 25. They want to know where to find snow during their trip and are looking for advice on places to visit that will maximize their snowy experience in the Swiss Alps.

Key takeaways:
  • You can find snow on the glaciers like Mt Titlis and Jungfraujoch in June.
  • Consider staying in Wengen, Grindelwald, or Mürren instead of Interlaken for better access to Jungfrau.
  • Trains are the best and most efficient way to travel between cities; think about getting a Swiss Travel Pass for easy access to public transport.

    Hi

My name is Shahbaz Alam. I and my wife are planning a trip for 5 nights to Switzerland from Dublin in June 2019. We are planning to be in the country from 20-25 June 2019. We just want to know if we will be able to find snow during this time. Also, the places we should be covering where we can easily find snow.

    Hi Shahbaz

You will certainly find snow in June on the glaciers although they are shrinking due to global warming

You can visit the following glaciers in Switzerland:

Hope this helps in your planning!

    Hi Maria

Thanks for an instant response. I feel relieved on hearing that there will be snow at that time. Can you please help us with list of places we can cover during our stay in correct order so that we maximize our time and stay. We are entering on 20th from Zurich and will be exiting from Basel on 25th.

    Hello Maria

I do not intend to ask you for an itinerary. I understand this is not the correct forum for that. I am just asking your critique on a rough plan we have made. We are entering through Zurich and leaving through Basel. So roughly this is how we plan to stay there

    20th June – Zurich

    21st – 22nd June – Lucerne – Mt Titlis

    23-24th June – Interlaken – Jungfrau

    25th June – Basel

We have thought of this considering the traveling routes we could gather from the internet. Our main focus is to experience the snow and swiss alps. If you could help in confirming that the above plan is fine we can go ahead with that, or if you think we can rearrange the order or extend our stay in one of the place then that is also welcome. We just want to make our trip a memorable one.

    Hi again Shahbaz,

I love your itinerary! Should be perfect for what you want to do whilst in Switzerland.

My only suggestion would be to stay in closer to Jungfraujoch, either in Wengen, Grindelwald or Murren, as there is not much in Interlaken.

For train connections and timings you can visit http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

Here are more links to your destinations:

    Perhaps others have more suggestions.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip!

    Hi Maria-

I wonder if the question is to actually be in or on snow, rather than necessarily on a glacier.

Since I have never gone hunting for snow….we get enough every year here in Conecticut in the USA… I don’t know the exact details.

So, choosing from your links in your first post, and looking at at the proposed itinerary,

I think Titlis might offer that opportunity, and the Jungfraujoch. So, as you say, a perfect itinerary.

I know that we sometimes caution against going up to Jungfraujoch when it is cloudy….can’t see the sights….but that should not be a worry in this case.. So, no need to plan for a few days stay near the Jngfrau to make sure that you get a sunny one.

Please correct me if I am wrong

    Thanks Maria.

Is Train the cheapest mode of travel in between the mentioned places? Or there are local buses which offer cheaper rates?

    Hi Shahbaz03,

Yes train is the best form of travel in Switzerland in between cities and towns, but you also do have buses and boats 🙂 Here is more information about the rail network http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain

You can plan for travel between your destinations by using the timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

For your stay in Switzerland, you should consider a rail pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass

The Swiss Travel Pass http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass or Half Fare card http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard should be good options for your itinerary.

    Maria.
