Jungfrau Travel Pass or other pass for winter

Hi there, I was wondering if I can get someone’s opinion on if there is rail pass we could use for our journey. I have used the spreadsheet from this forum and from what I can see (if I did it correctly!) it’s best that we simply pay full price for everything. I looked at the Jungfrau Travel pass but I saw somewhere this can’t be used over winter? Your thoughts and help would be much appreciated! Any other rail pass we could use? This is our train & sightseeing journey:

Day 1 – Zurich Airport – Lucerne (single)

    Day 2 – Lucerne – Bern (return)

Day 3 – Lucerne – Mount Rigi by boat and train (return)

Day 4 – Lucerne to Interlarken – Interlarken to Wengen – Wengen to Lauterbrunnen – Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken – Interlaken to Grindelwald (thought we’d visit Lauterbrunnen and Wengen on our way to Grindelwald)

Day 5 – First Walk – Gondola + train from Grindelwald

Day 6 – Jungfrau from Grindelwald

Day 7 – Grindelwald to Geneva

Hi Anjee and welcome to MySwissAlps.com!

When are you coming to Switzerland? Are you going to ski as well? Are kids travelling with you?

Indeed, the Jungfrau Travel Pass is available for travelling from mid-April to mid- or late October. If you are travelling after October, have a look at the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauhikingsledgingpass.

Also make sure to check the operating times of the cable cars and other mountain transport, during November some of the mountain transport is closed for maintenance.

As you are also travelling in and around Lucerne, the Swiss Travel Pass could be useful for your whole trip. Please have a look at the validity map: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity.

Hi Ildiko, thanks so much for your reply. Oops I forgot to mention we are coming to Switzerland in December! Thanks for the tip about the hiking and sledging pass – I will have a look at that. We would like to do one day skiing while we are in Grindelwald and we are a couple – no kids 🙂

    Hi Anjee,

Based on your travel plans, you might want to consider getting the Swiss Half Fare Card (CHF120). With this card, you pay half-price on all standard tickets on public transport as well as mountain transportation. In addition, you can take advantage of cheaper Saver Day Pass when you book early.

If you’re interested in skiing in Grindelwald, you might want to try this: Ski/ snowboard lessons in Grindelwald

    Hi Anjee,

Based on your itinerary I don’t think that buying full-fare tickets turns out cheaper than getting a rail pass. As soon as you’re spending CFH 240 per person on full-fare tickets, you’ll already start saving with a Swiss Half Fare Card (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard). According to a quick calculation you’ll already reach that amount half-way on day 4. So getting a pass certainly makes sense in your case. Just to check:

I hope this helps you to find a good solution. The Swiss Half Fare Card (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard) and/or the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauhikingsledgingpass) are worth looking into.

Hi Arno, I think I’ll have to look at my calculations again! Perhaps I did use the wrong fares. Appreciate you doing a quick calculation for me 🙂

Does anyone know where I can find a price for the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass? I went to the link that’s on this forum and when I enter the month of Dec it says ‘no product found’; even though it says you can book 6 months in advance. shop.acprail.com/#/pass/jungfrau_passes/ I’ve searched the internet and can’t find a price anywhere.

    Hi Anjee,

Did you click this link? http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauhikingsledgingpass/price

If there’s a problem we need to look into it. In the meanwhile, you can compare the Jungfrau Travel Pass prices via the links at https://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/price.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Anjee!

I think it’s too early. The Jungfrau railways only mention the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass for the past winter season 2021-2022, and doesn’t have any information about the 2022-2023 pass and its prices yet. As long as that’s not available, other resellers such as ACP Rail can’t offer it either. They depend on the input provided by the Jungfrau railways. My advice would be to try again in October. I think details will be available by then, and you’ll have more than enough time to get your pass before departure.

Hi Anna, yes, the link is fine. I actually meant that when I clicked on option 1 (ACP Rail) I couldn’t find any current information for the passes. Sorry for any confusion! 🙂

The Jungfrau website has this PDF with 2022/23 winter pass prices.

Excellent CPMP2022, thanks for providing the link to the winter brochure! The new Jungfrau Hikind and Sledging Pass will surely be for sale through several channels well before the winter season.
