Train travel on non-panoramic trains with a pass?
A traveler is planning an 8-day trip in Switzerland with their husband using Swiss Travel Passes. They want to confirm if they can travel freely on the train from Zermatt to Lauterbrunnen and then from Lauterbrunnen to Lausanne, as well as get information on the Golden Pass route. They are looking for clarity on train schedules and seat reservations.
- You can travel from Zermatt to Lauterbrunnen and Lauterbrunnen to Lausanne with your Swiss Travel Pass as long as you avoid official Glacier Express trains.
- Make sure to check the SBB timetable for alternative options to avoid Glacier Express services.
- To display the Golden Pass route in the timetable, refer to the instructions on myswissalps.com under the Golden Pass section.

My husband and I have 8 day Swiss Travel Passes. Am I correct in that on the days we wish to travel from Zermatt to Lauterbrunnen, and then from Lauterbrunnen to Lausanne we can just get on the train and go? Obviously I would need to confirm the itinerary and the route beforehand. But once I know which trains we want to catch, we can just get on right?
And other than the special seats in the front car of the Golden Pass trains, the same goes?
