    Hello,

We are traveling to and staying in Lugano from 31st July to 4th August.

Just saw the weather report. There is a red alert warning for extreme high temperatures with maximum being 34 and real feel 37 degrees.

Is it worth going there with this heat wave? Or go to some other place which has a much better salubrious climate?

Would appreciate quick views on the above.

If anyone has gone there in the recent past, their views would be very useful.

    Thanks

    Hi Shasukhy,

The heatwave alert is applicable nationwide. I think you shouldn’t be overly worried as long as you take the necessary precautions such as keeping yourself hydrated, ventilated and sheltered from the heat if you’re not used to it. Most people escape to the mountains or visit the nearest pools to stay cool in this weather. If you can, book hotels which provide air-conditioning. Most hotels in Lugano provide this facility but always good to check with them directly.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hello Anna.

Coming from India, we are used to the heat. We came to Switzerland to escape from the heat and are now wondering whether going to Lugano would be a good idea.

Yes, our hotel does have Air Conditioning, but am not sure whether sight seeing would be comfortable during the day.

We are currently in St. Moritz and going to Zermatt.

Are there any other similar places in the mountains which we can look at as an option in lieu of Lugano?

    Hi Shasukhy,

I think sightseeing is still possible in the heat. Just make sure you stay hydrated.

If you prefer to escape to the mountains, you can find various options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/naturalsites/mountains

In Lugano, you can also find several local mountains such as Monte Bre, Monte San Salvatore and Monte Generoso.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Shashukhy,

There are more than enough mountains to enjoy somewhat lower temperatures. Anna provided great tips for Lugano. Zermatt too is surrounded by many high mountains such as Klein Matterhorn (https://www.myswissalps.com/kleinmatterhorn), Gornergrat (https://www.myswissalps.com/gornergrat) and Sunnegga-Rothorn (https://www.myswissalps.com/sunneggarothorn). You’ll find more tips at https://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt/activities.

The current forecast for Lugano doesn’t look too bad I think (https://www.myswissalps.com/weather/forecast). Temperatures around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius are expected, which is pretty common for Lugano in summer.

    Good Morning

    Thanks for your inputs.

We are considering to continue our journey to Lugano.

Our hotel has Air Conditioning and we will visit the mountains, suggested by Anna, during our stay there.

    THanks again
