Complete Jungfrau experience in one day

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a one-day trip to the Jungfrau region in two weeks, starting from Brienz near Interlaken. They want help mapping out an itinerary to visit several beautiful spots including Wengen, Grindelwald, and Schilthorn, with a goal of seeing snow on the mountains and returning before dark.

Key takeaways:
  • Download the Jungfrau Travel Pass validity map to visualize your stops and routes.
  • Consider a route from Brienz to Lauterbrunnen, then to Mürren and back, including a visit to Trummelbach Falls.
  • You don’t need to visit Mürren if you're short on time; focus on the main circuit to Jungfraujoch for snow views.
  • You can buy tickets for Jungfraujoch at the train station on the day of your visit without a reservation if there’s space.

    Hi all,

I am planning to do a trip to Jungrau in two weeks. As I researched, I found that there are so many beautiful places that I should be dedicating some time to explore like Wengen, Grindelwald, First, Klein Scheidig, Murren, Schilthorn and Jungfrau itself.

I am going to start from Brienz near Interlaken and only have one day for this excursion. My question to the forum is, can someone map out an itinerary for me to cover most of the above mentioned places including what to do where for how long. I am willing to leave very early morning for the trip but would want to be back in the city before it gets dark.

PS: My primary goal is to see snow on the mountains.

    Hi Abdul,

Sounds like a great idea! We don’t really plan itineraries here (see forum rules: http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/rules) however we can help you with some pointers.

It may be helpful for you to see the map of the area, you can do that by downloading the Jungfrau Travel Pass validity map here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrautravelpass/valid ity

Then you will see where your stops are in relation to one another.

If you want to fit all that into a day you could go from Brienz to Lauterbrunnen.

From Lauterbrunnen a very nice circuit to do is to Grütschalp (cable car), Mürren (train), Gimmelwald (cable car), Stechelberg (cable car), Lauterbrunnen (bus). From Mürren you can easily visit Schiltorn if you have time. In between Stechelberg and Lauterbrunnen the bus stops at the Trummelbach Falls which is worth a look.

Once back at Lauterbrunnen head up to Jungfraujoch and return to Grindelwald then back to Brienz if that is your base.

Or you can do the whole thing in reverse.

You won’t have any problems finding snow at the higher altitudes.

The standard round trip circuit on the Jungfrau will get you what you want to see. There isn’t too much need to deviate from the train route. Just go Brienz – Interlaken – Lauterbrunnen – Wengen – Kleine Scheidegg – Jungfraujoch – Kleine Scheidegg – Grindelwald – Interlaken – Brienz. You can break your journey at Wengen and Grindelwald

There is no particular need to squeeze Mürren in to the same day as well unless you particularly want to see the James Bond restaurant on Schilthorn

    Hi all,

Thanks for your replies. I thought a lot about this and now I am planning to give 2 days to Jungfrau region for it has so much to offer. On one day, I’m planning to cover Wengen, Murren and Schilthorn. On the other day, I’m planning to cover Grindelwald and First. I need to put Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfrau in the itinerary of one of these two days. My questions:

    1. Which of the above two days should I include Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfrau? Which of the two days will I have more time?

    2. I’m planning to buy tickets for Jungrau at the last moment to be sure about the weather. Would I be able to make reservation at the last moment? If I don’t get the reservation, would I still be allowed to board the train?

    Hi Abdul qadir,

It will add some additional travelling time on either of the days. For details pleas use the timetable link provided by Maria.

You will be able to purchase the ticket to the Jungfraujoch at anytime from the train station or upon arrival online, whatever is easier:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch/tickets

You don’t need a reservation if there is space on the trainl, which there will be at this time of year.

    Best,
    Steph
