Hi Rick54jr,
Vitznau is a convenient base for excursion to Rigi. You can even do the roundtrip that includes a boat ride to Lucerne. More details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/rigi
You can find more suggestions from the links below:
I’m sure other forum members would be happy to offer more suggestions.
Regards,
Anna
If that’s your “condo near Luzern” (from earlier post) then http://www.myswissalps.com/lucerne/activities should give you a few ideas. You are roughly 1 hour from Luzern by either boat, bus, bus/train combination.
Have a look at the Funicular to Stoos and a visit to Fronalpstock.
For checking timetables see http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/checking-train-timetables.
Rockoyster has nailed it
See attached screen grab
One hour (plus time to get to the boat or bus stop), is the correct time..

Staying at Vitznau (or any accomodation in Switzerland for that matter) in the accomodation or locally (including the tourist office) there is likely to be heaps of information available about local and regional attractions.
For a longer day out (in good weather) I recommend a trip to Oberalppass. route Vitznau – Fluelen (by boat) -Erstfeld – Göschenen – Andermatt – Oberalppass. Have lunch in the nice café at the summit of the pass which is a few minutes walk from the station platform. To make the section from / to Vitznau quicker go one way by bus (eg Vitznau – Brunnen)
Hello,
Perhaps the bunker, called the Festung Vitznau, would be of interest? http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ca/experiences/vitznau-fortress-festung-vitznau/
The following site is in German only: festung-vitznau.ch/
Both individuals and single travelers can visit.
