Does anyone have any suggestions of what we can add to a day trip from Interlaken to Jungfraujoch.  We will visit early in the morning, but wanted suggestions of things to do on the way back to Interlaken.  What else is along the route and would make a good day trip?  Thank you in advance.

Last time we were there, we really missed out on actually spending more time in Lauterbrunnen (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/lauterbrunnen/) on the way to Jungfraujoch (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/jungfraujoch/). So, while on the way up there, you could take a later train instead of jumping into the first available one.

On the way up (and down), I think have an option to change (or have to change) trains at Kleine Scheidegg (if I remember right) – I suggest again spending more time there instead of taking the first one available. On the way down, we took the train to from Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald and then to Interlaken (or maybe it was a direct one). But we again missed an opportunity to spend time in Grindelwald (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/grindelwald/).

So you have opportunities to break your journey and enjoy Lauterbrunnen, Kleine Scheidegg and/or Grindelwald. At the very least, I suggest spending more time in Kleine Scheidegg since you could always use your travel passes (if you have one) or p2p tickets to visit Lauterbrunnen and Gridelwald again, but likely the trip to Jungfraujoch (via Kleine Scheidegg) will be a one-time thing.

Also, a bit of advice – while Jungfraujoch had lot to offer, it was jam packed. One could perhaps skip some attraction(s) there (like the chocolate factory) and instead spend more time in the destinations on the way up or down

    Hi Mark,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

I agree with VK123 to make a stop in Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald on the way back. While in Lauterbrunnen, if you have time you can take the cableway via Grütschalp to Mürren (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/murren/), a car-free village just below Schilthorn. In addition, if you are interested in a lake cruise, you could take the train direct to Interlaken Ost and hop on the boat to Brienz (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/boat-lake-brienz/).

    Regards,
    Anna

I can’t stress enough how much of an indelible memory just 10 minutes at the Lauterbrunnen train station made on us in 2016 (while we switched to the Jungfraujoch train up). So, this time around, we are spending 6 nights based in Wengen and doing just local things – Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Gimmelwald, Northface trail, Mannlichen, Grindelwald. The only trip away (if you can call it that) is one from Wengen to Interlaken and via boat to Brienz and then to Aare Gorge and Reichenbach falls

    Hi Mark,

There are some lovely trails in the area that you could enjoy after your visit to Jungfraujoch, if you like walking.  The two listed below are relatively short:

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda
