I am trying to plan a trip from Rome on March 16 to March 23rd ending in Zurich. I am having some trouble planning stops and which towns are best to stay one night or 2. We plan on taking a train from Rome to Tirano and staying the night there. We want to take the Bernina Express from Tirano to Chur. But we think we would like to stay one night in St. Moritz. Would we take a regular train back down to St. Moritz? Which is the better town to overnight in? We plan on then taking the Glacier Express to Zermatt. Are there any stops along that route where we should get off or stay the night or is it better to just go straight to Zermatt?

We were thinking of spending 2 nights in Zermatt and then possibly heading to Interlaken for a day then up to Lucern for the last couple of nights then to the airport. Does anyone have suggestions for a better itinerary or ideas about any of this trip or recommendations for activities and things to do?

    Thank you

    Hi skidad3,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

From Tirano, you can take the Bernina Express to St Moritz. Then from St Moritz, take the Glacier Express to Zermatt. From Zermatt, take a regular train to Interlaken. Then travel to Lucerne on the Lucerne-Interlaken Express. You can plan your journey easily using the Swiss timetable: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/

Be sure to book your seats on the Bernina Express (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/bernina-express/) and Glacier Express (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/glacier-express/) in advance. I assume you will be using a Swiss rail pass. Otherwise I would definitely recommend getting the Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/)

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna
