Without a doubt I recommend the Lavaux vineyards and the hotel that we stayed at, The Royal Savoy, in Lausanne. We had planned three days here but our flight was canceled two days in a row so we didn’t get to see much of Lausanne but what we saw I’d recommend it as a stopover point and I think three days is necessary.  Walk the vineyards, they are so beautiful!  We wanted to take the shuttle bus starting in Chexbres but missed it so we hiked down the hill to the Vinorama.  It’s pretty steep and a bit hard on the knees. If we had more time, the path that runs mostly parallel to the lake would be a better choice. The Golden Pass Express from Montreux is another highly recommended excursion heading out of the Lavaux region to Interlaken.

We loved Interlaken and the Hotel Bellevue on the river. The area on the other side of the river from the hotel is so quaint. I also thought the busier areas of the town were quite nice. Definitely go to Lauterbrunnen and walk to Trummelbach Falls. What a beautiful walk!  The falls are spectacular as well. The same day, we went up to Schilthorn walking through Murren on the way back down. I think Murren and Wengen are quite similar and not necessary to see both.

A review that I think is very important to leave is the ridge hike that we did from Klingenstock to Kronalpstock. While the views are absolutely stunning and almost hard to believe they are real, the hike is very strenuous and, at times, dangerous. I didn’t read or see much about the fact that you climb up and down many very, very high, steep steps with some being laden with big chunks of rocks sticking out. There are a few areas of long, high steps with nothing on the side of them and straight down cliffs next to you. Very scary!  Just beware if you have this on your must do list. Hiking boots or shoes would be much better than sneakers as well. Plan on 2.5-4 hours to complete the entire hike.

Lucerne is a bustling city and worth a day or two to visit and the complete opposite of the Jungfrau region.  The river that runs through it is beautiful as well.

    Hi Carol,

Thanks so much for writing and submitting your trip report.

Sorry to hear about your flight cancellations, most frustrating but it’s sounds like you had a lovely trip 🙂

I agree with your description of the Ridge Hike at Stoos (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/stoos/), parts of the trail are quite exposed and definitely previous hiking experience and a decent pair of hiking shoes are necessary.

    Thanks again and kind regards,
    Yolanda
