Which base town is better for easy access to the Jungfrau region?
A traveler is planning a trip to the Lauterbrunnen area and wants to know the best town to stay in for hiking, preferably up in the mountains. They are considering Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Grindelwald, or Wengen and seek advice on transport access and restaurant options, as they don't need nightlife but enjoy walking to transit.
- Consider staying in Wengen or Grindelwald for easy access to hiking trails and restaurants.
- The Swiss Travel Pass is a good option for convenient transportation around the Jungfrau region.
- Murren offers beautiful scenery but is less convenient for transport compared to Wengen or Grindelwald.
- Buses in Switzerland are reliable, with good services like the 141 route from Lauterbrunnen to the Schilthornbahn.
- Thun is a great alternative as a transport hub, with easy access to surrounding areas.

We are planning a trip to Lauterbrunnen area. We want to hike and like the idea of staying up in the mountain over the valley floor. I was wondering which town is better to stay in as a hub to get around the area by transit. Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Grindelwald or Wengen. Other suggestions are welcome. We are in our 60’s we don’t need night life but we do want some restaurants and easy routes to get to cable cars or trains. (I would rather walk longer to transit then waiting around for a bus)
Thank you for suggestions.
