    Hello,

my mother who is 78 years old is visiting us. She would be here for 2 months. I would like to give her a comfortable experience of Switzerland. However, she cannot walk long nor climb or anything that needs physical stamina. I would request some suggestions here. We can do like 2-3 days trip every week. We live in Zug.

    thanks,

    Veena

    Hello Veena,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

That’s lovely your mother will be visiting you. Scenic train trips would be a good option, they would not be too strenuous as she could sit and enjoy the beautiful Swiss scenery. You can read about the popular scenic train trips in the link below:

You could also plan the train trip to coincide to stay a night or two in for example, Montreux for the GoldenPass or Zermatt for the Glacier Express or Lugano for the Bernina Pass. That way she can also see and visit the different regions of Switzerland.

Take a look at the below link for additional ideas, there are some sample itineraries within that you can have a read through. You need not do the full itineraries but you can pick what you think would suit your mother best.

Another thing to bear in mind, is a rail pass for her. Perhaps once you have finalised a few things you can also have a read about the various rail pass options: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hi Veena,

Zug is halfway between Zurich and Lucerne. You can easily plan day trips to each city. You can find sightseeing options in the following links:

From Zug you can also easily plan a trip to Bellinzona (there’s a direct train service which takes about 1 hour). I think it would be a good idea to explore a different region of Switzerland.

    regards,

    Anna

    Good choices Veena.

If your mother decides she likes boats trips. There are more suggestions in the below link.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Veena,

If you visit Schaffhausen dont forget to visit the amazing rhine falls! If you are visiting the south of Switzerland, I can recommend the Swiss Miniature Park near Minusio, which shows Switzerland in small size with many sights of your country 🙂

How about a boat ride on a old paddlesteamer on Lake Lucerne or a train ride up the Pilatus or Brienzer Rothorn mountain? A visit to the Aaareschlucht and Giessbach Falls? These are also wonderful and easy excursion destinations!

    Have a great trip!

Thanks Yolanda. Yes I think boat rides would be good for her. Also, look at Lake Lucerne for boat ride. Also, wanted to check if Mt. Pilatus by train is a good idea. And how do I get there from Zug. Also, would you suggest Mt. Pilatus or Jungfrau or Mt. Titlis.

Thanks Martin. Is Aareschlucht comfortable? My mother can’t walk long or even steep places.

    Hi Veena,

Here’s our handy link for boat trips on Lake Lucerne:

From Zug, I would say the trip to Pilatus is more straightforward, shorter travel time and less changes required compared to Jungfraujoch or Mt. Titlis. You can read all about the route there in the below link. Do lan your journey using the SBB timetable:

A trip to visit the Aare Gorge at Aareschlucht will involve some walking. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the train station(s) to the entrance. The walk itself through the entire Aare Gorge (one way) will take around an hour.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hi Veena,

The Aareschlucht is really a flat walk. The gorge is quite long but you can walk as far as you want. I have a video on my YT channel that gives you an impression. It is important to take the West Entrance! The eastern entrance is a bit steep at the beginning.

    Have a great day!
