Can you please help with itineraries for two weeks trip at Switzerland and also include few days at Milan and possibly Lake Como area. I am flying in Zurich and flying out Milan ( I can change it if it’s not doable). I will not rent a car.
I am thinking on staying overnights at Zurich, Lucerne and Geneva. Please advise if these cities are ok to stay for day trips to mountain areas.
Any help is appreciated!

Hi Forgetmenot and welcome to MySwissAlps.com!
At http://www.myswissalps.com/plantrip/doityourself/sampleitineraries you’ll find sample itineraries. Also, if you have a look at http://www.myswissalps.com/plantrip/doityourself/composeitinerary that helps you with tips on how to compose your itinerary. You might find these pages helpful.
For visiting mountains I recommend:
- Zermatt: http://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt
- Jungfrau region: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauregion
- Lake Lucerne area: http://www.myswissalps.com/lakelucerne
- Graubünden: http://www.myswissalps.com/graubunden
- and the east part of Lake Geneva: http://www.myswissalps.com/lakegeneva, from where you can reach mountains like Glacier3000
Visiting Italy any Lake Como is easier from Lugano: http://www.myswissalps.com/lugano. (Actually you can find mountains in Canton Ticino too). As you would like to travel to Italy, make sure to read this one: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy.

ForgetmenotParticipant6 posts22 July 2022 at 16:47:16 #944584Thank you for these links! I am so newbie to all this planning. I still have questions as I try to minimise base cities to make day trips to mountains as I don’t want to travel with luggage all the time. I would like to go to mountains but I am not too comfortable to walk on narrow cliffs.
I am thinking Zurich -2 nights;
Lucerne -2 – 3 nights nights
Bern- ?
Does it make sense to stay overnight/s in Bern, or everything can be done from Lucerne?
Do I have to stay at Interlaken or can do it as day trips from above cities?
Geneva – 4 days
Thanks again

If you are interested in scenic mountain excursions, I recommend choosing a base in Lucerne and Interlaken. From Lucerne, you can also do day trips to Zurich and Bern. Adding Geneva to your itinerary is a good option if you plan to explore the Lake Geneva area (Montreux, Lavaux vineyards).
Below are some useful links to give you some sightseeing ideas for your trip:

- Bern: http://www.myswissalps.com/bern

ForgetmenotParticipant6 posts23 July 2022 at 14:54:56 #944586Thank you, Anna! Are any of these trips should be done from Interlaken only, or still can be done from Lucerne?
And another question, is it any direct train from Geneva to Milan since Geneva is my last city in Switzerland?
Much appreciated! Thanks
AnnaModerator6382 posts23 July 2022 at 17:43:12 #944587Hi Forgetmenot,
Interlaken is a good base for exploring the Jungfrau region. From Interlaken you can also do day trip to Bern. Lucerne on the other hand is a good base to explore the central region especially the areas around Lake Lucerne and mountains such as Pilatus and Titlis. Also, Zurich is only about an hour train ride from Lucerne, so perfect for a day trip.
There are regular train connections from Geneva to Milan. You might have to switch trains once or twice. You can check train schedules on the SBB timetable. You can find more information about train tickets to Italy here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy
Hope this helps.

Anna
ForgetmenotParticipant6 posts6 August 2022 at 21:01:45 #944588Will Grindelwald be good place to stay for one or two nights after Lucerne? And then we are planning to go to Geneva.
Thank you
ArnoModerator15484 posts7 August 2022 at 7:07:17 #944589Hi Forgetmenot,
Sure, Grindelwald is a great resort surrounded by beautiful mountains. You can find more information here: https://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwald.
Have you been looking into rail passes? You can start doing so once your itinerary is more or less finalized. If you’ll be traveling nearly each day, the 15-day Swiss Travel Pass could be a good option: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass. This page explains how to find the pass that suits your needs best: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.
ForgetmenotParticipant6 posts7 August 2022 at 20:08:49 #944590Thank you.
We are thinking of buying 15 Swiss Travel Pass. Does it cover journey from Lucerne to Grindelwald, and from Grindelwald to Geneva?
AnnaModerator6382 posts8 August 2022 at 5:52:49 #944591Hi Forgetmenot,
Yes, with the Swiss Travel Pass you can travel for free to Lucerne, Grindelwald and Geneva. The Swiss Travel Pass is valid throughout Switzerland. You can download the validity map here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity

ForgetmenotParticipant6 posts9 August 2022 at 4:25:34 #944592Thanks!
Is it worth to include one night in Lugano going to Milan from Geneva?
AnnaModerator6382 posts9 August 2022 at 8:56:34 #944593Hi Forgetmenot,
The fastest route from Geneva to Milan doesn’t go via Lugano but via Brig. The journey takes about 4 hours by direct train.
Travelling to Milan from Geneva via Lugano is possible but it’s a longer journey and includes some switchbacks.
You can find more information about Lugano here: http://www.myswissalps.com/lugano/activities

Anna
