We are a large group of 16-20 people – mostly adults with just 4 adult kids ages 10-17- traveling to Zermatt in February to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday – there are at least 5-7 people in the group that don’t ski -staying in hotel Pollux

1. please recommend other activities and sightseeing in Zermatt and surroundings

2. All ( including kids) are big foodies- please recommend restaurants

3 we will arrive to Zurich – train to Zermatt – 5 nights in Zermatt – then train back to either Lucerne or Zurich for 4 nights to possibly explore Lucerne, Bern and another city and back home from Zurich airport

– please recommend best base city with hotels that can accommodate family of 4

– best rail pass option for this itinerary

– 3rd city to visit besides Bern and Lucerne from our base

– must see sights / activities for February travel in those cities

– great restaurants

There will be plenty of options for sure.

3. Bern, Lucerne and Zurich are all more or less one hour by train from each other, so all are suitable as a base. Lucerne is closest to the Alps. A day trip to Basel might be worth it if you like historical town centers. The below pages offer activity and hotels suggestions, and more details:

As for rail passes: this trip takes 10 or 11 days, right? It depends on the exact day trips you plan to take, and whether or not the non-skiers stay in Zermatt or want to travel elsewhere on day trips. I recommend to look into these passes:

Doesn’t need to be fancy or Michelin star but great food. No need for “family” restaurants. We including kids. Eat and willing to try most things

Any recommendations in Zermatt?
