West and east
The huge Lake Geneva is the most prominent feature of this area. The densely populated western part of the lake is dominated by the lively city of Geneva.
From here, visitors can explore the lake area and make trips further south, for example to the Chamonix-Mont Blanc area in France.
The Alps begin near the eastern part of the lake, so most tourists consider that the most attractive area to visit. Vibrant lakeshore cities like Lausanne and Montreux are a great base to explore the lake area and its surroundings. The hills and mountains allow for day trips to viewing points with wonderful lake views.
There's easy access to culturally interesting regions in the north-east, such as the famous medieval town Gruyères. The hills and forests of the regional park Gruyère-Pays d'Enhaut are attractive as well.
