3 days in Lauterbrunnen – plan itinerary

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning their honeymoon in Switzerland, specifically in the Jungfrau region from June 2nd to 5th, after visiting Lucerne. They are looking for tips on how to make the most of their short stay, using Lauterbrunnen as their base, and love hiking but want to know what to prioritize during their time there.

Key takeaways:
  • Use Lauterbrunnen as a base and limit your daily activities to a maximum of 3 destinations for a more relaxed experience.
  • For Day 1, explore Lauterbrunnen on foot, take the cable car to Schilthorn and Mürren, then return via the cog train.
  • Spend Day 2 at Jungfraujoch in the morning and either Wengen or Grindelwald in the afternoon, with optional hikes.
  • Consider exploring Interlaken on Day 3, and don't miss boat trips on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun for a great experience.

My fiancé and I are so excited to start our honeymoon off in Switzerland, and could really use some help prioritizing the best activities for a short stay in the Jungfrau region. After spending time in Lucerne, we will take the golden line down to Interlaken early in the morning and then connect to Lauterbrunnen, where we have a chalet rented for 3 days/nights (June 2nd – 5th).

We will have a 4 day rail pass that will last our full time in the area, and I would love to hear any suggestions on how to make the most of our time. We plan to use Lauterbrunnen as a base camp, and take the cable cars all throughout the region. We love to hike (but understand some trails might not be ready this early in the season) and want to see as much as realistically as possible. Beyond taking the Top of Europe trip, what are the “must-haves” we need on our itinerary? I was loosely planning on spending 1 day to see Lauterbrunnen and Wengen (day 1), 1 day to see Grindelwald and the top of europe trip (day 2), and one day to visit 1 or 2 more towns (day 3). Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Thank you so much for the help!

    Hi sbstoval,

Lauterbrunnen as a base to explore the Jungfrau region is a good option. There is a tendency to try and cover as much as possible in a few days but for a relaxing trip, I suggest sticking to max 3 destinations or attractions in 1 day. My personal recommendation:

Day 1 – Explore Lauterbrunnen on foot, take the cable car from Stechelberg to Schilthorn, take the cable car from Schilthorn to Mürren, explore Murren on foot. Travel back to Lauterbrunnen via the cog train and cableway via Grutschalp.

Day 2: Travel to Jungfraujoch in the morning. Afternoon in Wengen or Grindelwald. Either take the cable car to Männlichen and do a short hike, or take the cable car to Grindelwald First.

Day 3: Explore Interlaken. Optional: Excursion to Harder Kulm. Take boat trips on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun.

These are just some ideas to get you started on your itinerary. Hope this helps!

    regards,

    Anna
