A traveler named Tanveer is planning a trip to Zurich with family, spending one day in Zurich and planning to visit Jungfraujoch on the second day. They are looking for suggestions on activities, nearby places to visit, and advice on accommodations and travel passes.
Key takeaways:
Consider staying in Lucerne for days you visit Mount Titlis and Mount Pilatus to save travel time.
A 3-day Swiss Travel Pass could be beneficial for exploring on your own, especially if your kids are older than 6, as they might need a Swiss Family Card.
Utilize the SBB advanced timetable for precise travel times, especially if considering day trips to far-off locations like Zermatt.

Hello Tanveer,
There is a lot to do and see in the Zurich area for a few days and also moving towards Lucerne and closer to the Alps is easily possible from Zurich, everything is very well connected by train. Any idea where you’ll be staying? See below links for input and inspiration: – http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich/activities – http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne/activities
➤ No need to spend hours on research. We use our local expertise to plan your independent trip exactly as you want it. Professional and easy. See how it works
The reason is that many tourist attractions have seasonal schedules. Pilatus is one example. We can advise you much more accurately if we know when you are traveling.

Hello tanveer!
You’d best use the SBB advanced timetable to find out about traveling times from Zurich (or other base towns) to your preferred destinations: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable. As you’ll see, a single journey Zurich-Zermatt takes no less than 3h12, and that doesn’t include any ride up to a mountain. It would be way too much for me as a day trip. If you prefer to stay in Zurich, you’d best focus on the city itself (http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich) and the Lake Lucerne area (http://www.myswissalps.com/la kelucerne). But of course it’s up to you to decide which travel times you’re comfortable with.

Hi Tanveer-
Thanks for your dates. In general, mid-September is a good time of year. Weather is always unpredictable, but, on average, is best in September.
I was concerned, because these days, some posters in the Forum are looking at November or early December, when many tourist services are closed between seasons.
