Hello,
I will be in Wengen the last week of August and Lucerne the first week of September.  (only three weeks away!!)
Mostly hiking in both areas and looking for suggestions on what to pack for the trip.
I don’t want to overpack but certainly don’t want to leave out anything important.
This is my first trip to Switzerland and would appreciate any suggestions. (“must haves” and “don’t bother” items)   Can’t wait to get there.
**Also, if you have any hiking suggestions for Wengen area or any other area I should visit while there, please share.
I have my time in Lucerne all planned out already.  Thank you for your time and enjoy.

That’s a great prospect :-)! Wengen is perfect for hiking. I don’t know what level and duration you’re comfortable with, but here are some of my personal favorites:

Essentials to pack for a hiking trip: long trousers to protect your legs, a wind- and waterproof jacket as your top layer, further thin layers such as shirts or fleece sweaters to adjust to varying temperatures throughout the day, sun protection (a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses) and of course: proper hiking boots with good grip.

We usually find that category B boots are suitable for easy to medium hikes in the Swiss Alps. For longer, more demanding, or exposed trails, category C would be better.
