Paris to Geneva by TGV train, railpass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Shraviit is planning a trip from Paris to Geneva for 2 days, followed by visits to Lauterbrunnen, Interlaken, Grindelwald, Zermatt to see the Matterhorn, and finally Lucerne and Zurich. They need advice on which travel card to purchase for their family of four, including two kids aged 11 and 6, as they feel confused about options like the Swiss Travel Pass and others.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider purchasing the Swiss Travel Pass for seamless travel across Switzerland, covering trains from Geneva to various destinations and including the Glacier Express.
  • When you buy the Swiss Travel Pass, don't forget to request a complimentary Swiss Family Card, which allows your children to travel for free.
  • Book your seats in advance for popular trains like the Glacier Express to ensure availability.

hey, we are flying into Paris, and taking a TGV Lyria train to Geneva for 2 days, then we plan to visit Lauterbrunnen, Interlaken, Grindelwald/Jungfraunoch for 2 days, go to Zermatt from there and explore Matterhorn, and take a glacier express from Zermatt to Andermatt, and then from Andermatt, goto Lucern, and then finally from Lucern to Zurich. We are thinking to fly or take a train from Zurich back to Paris. We were reading about Eurail, Swiss Travel Pass, SBB Half-fare Travelcard, and Family Card. We are a family of 4, with 2 kids (11 &6), and now completely confused about which card to buy. Any advice you could offer?

    Hi Shraviit,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Based on your travel plans, using a Swiss Travel Pass might be sensible. With a Swiss Travel Pass you won’t have to worry about buying train tickets for travel from Geneva to Interlaken, Grindelwald, Zermatt and Lucerne. The Swiss Travel Pass is also valid on the Glacier Express. Be sure to book your seat in advance as explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/tickets. With the Swiss Travel Pass, you can enjoy discounted travel on mountain transportation including the cogwheel train/ gondola to Jungfraujoch. In addition, you can request for a complimentary Swiss Family Card when you purchase the Swiss Travel Pass. The Swiss Family Card allows you to take your children along for free. You can find more information here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swissfamilycard.

The Swiss Travel Pass can be purchased online: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price

For the train journey from Paris to Geneva, you can find ticket information here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france

    Hope this gets you started.

    Regards,

    Anna
