A traveler named Shiv is planning a 5-day trip to the Geneva area in mid-June with senior citizens and a 10-year-old. They are looking for itinerary ideas and places to stay for an authentic Swiss experience, as they've already visited popular cities previously.
Key takeaways:
Consider taking the 'little red train' from Nyon to St Cergue for stunning views of the Alps.
Look for 3-bedroom apartments in quiet areas to save on accommodation costs; rentals often have kitchens for cooking.
The Swiss Travel Pass can help make public transportation cheaper, especially for families traveling with children.

I am planning to 5 days travel to Switzerland in June mid around Geneva area. I shall be travelling with senior citizens and a 10 year old. I would love hear on itinerary and places to stay for true Swiss experience. We have done cities and popular touristy places couple of years back.
Yvoire is a very cute medieval village, you can reach it also by boat. Many tourists visit Mt Blanc and Chamonix from Geneva. That is an other option. Although if you are traveling with elderly people you should consult with a doctor regarding the altitude sickness (if you are going above 2500 m), check this http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch under “Preparation”. Annecy is also not that far and a very beautiful town with amazing blue water.
If you do not go to France, have a look at http://www.myswissalps.com/regionalpasslakegeneva, to get to know the Regional Pass Lake Geneva – Alps. If you have that children travel along at a low fixed price or free.

In addition to Ildiko’s guides, one of the key poits about the Geneva area is it’s proximity to the highest section of the Jura mountain chain. Take the ‘little red train’ from Nyon to St Cergue. From the top of the Jura you can get great views of the Alps (if clear). If it’s a really clear day you can see from left to right the Alps stretching almost 200 miles

Hello Shiv,
Which cities and touristy places did you visit a couple of years back ? If I know this, and assume you want to go to new places, I can come up with some suggestions. Will you be traveling by car or by public transportation ? What is the total number of people in your group ? I love 1960man’s suggestion of the “little red train’ from Nyon up to St-Cergue. Read up on this at: http://www.region-du-leman.ch/en/P1166/nyon-st-cergue-la-cure-railway-nstcm

I do plan to visit Paris for couple of days then would move to Netherlands for anther 4-5 day around Amsterdam area. I shall be using excellent public transport of Switzerland while my stay there. As suggested by Ildiko I will take care about consultation on altitude sickness for elderly family members.
We would like to stay at quit places that does not involved several flight of stairs and easy on pocket as well. 3 bedroom apartments nestled in local community is something I would prefer but close to easy transport facilities to cut down on walking.
My expectations from this tour is to visit tourist attractions as well as soaking local culture during our short stay. I can stretch my visit for max 6 days in Switzerland.

Hi Shiv –
<<” in June mid around Geneva area.”>>
Dates are important, because June, though nice in Geneva, still has traces of Winter at higher altitudes.
The alpine regions evolve from late Winter to nearly Spring during June.
When are you traveling?

I’m repeating my earlier post because I think a moderator added a link to my post, but it was largely irrelevant (mentions of ‘North West Switzerland’, ‘Basel’ etc). I was specifically trying to direct you to the high Jura close to Geneva, so I have now added a more relevant link about this area.
In addition to Ildiko’s guides, one of the key points about the Geneva area is it’s proximity to the highest section of the Jura mountains. Take the ‘little red train’ from Nyon to St Cergue.
From the top of the Jura you can get great views of the Alps (if clear). If it’s a really clear day you can see from left to right the Alps stretching almost 200 miles
