Hi everyone, traveling to Switzerland next May and not sure which way to do one section of the trip.

After Zermatt I have 6 nights to spend to get to Interlaken. We would like to stay/visit in Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Grindelwald. Has anyone any ideas on the best way to do this ?

Naturally we have big bags to tote around, but would love to stay in these beautiful places. Can you train it or combo with skyways for transport ?

Also any suggestions on accommodation would be highly appreciated.

    Thanx. Bignose.

    Hi Bignose,

If you have 6 days to spend in the Jungfrau region, perhaps you can split the days between Interlaken and Grindelwald or Wengen. Interlaken is more central and perfect for a mix of activities such as mountains, lakes, museums and castles. Grindelwald and Wengen are ideal for mountain excursions, hiking and various adventure activities.

The following links provide a list of accommodation in the Jungfrau region:

If you are travelling with a heavy luggage, it might best to pick just one base. Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Grindelwald are located close to each other and are all easily accessible by train. Hi Bignose,

The 2 main options to get from Zermatt to Interlaken are:

    1. the quicker Lötschberg Base Tunnel route via Visp and Frutigen.
    2. the longer Lötschberg mountain route via Goppenstein and Kandersteg. It’s incredibly scenic: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/lotschberg-mountain-railway/

The Swiss timetable will show the quickest option by default. Enter “Kandersteg” as a via-station for details about the mountain route: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.
