    Hi Juliegamble4,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

I would recommend taking the train from Geneva Airport to Lauterbrunnen. The journey will take about 3.5 hours with changes in Bern and Interlaken Ost. It is easy to plan your journey using the SBB timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

Be sure to read this too if this is your first time travelling on Swisstrains: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/howtotravel

    Thanks Anna

Also on our last day we would like to travel back to Geneva airport along the Golden Pass line to Montreux and then jump on a train to the airport

Is this possibile and do we need to pre book

We are looking at getting a swiss travel pass but we have 5 days and only a 4 day pass is available

Would it be best to pay direct train fees on the first day and then get a travel pass to cover the rest

    Thank you

    Hi Julie,

You can use a Saver Day Pass to augment a Swiss Travel Pass or look at other options such as the Swiss Half-fare Card.

Based on your personal itinerary you should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math. The spreadsheet also includes links to the “Where it’s valid” page for all available passes. Be sure to check those pages for each pass you are considering. Study the map AND read all the text on those pages to fully understand what is covered by the respective pass.

    For checking timetables see http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/checking-train-timetables.

You can make reservations for the Golden Pass Line (http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass) including seat selection at bit.ly/2kaq6Rf. Click the “e” for English language top right of the page. (where it says “Sprachwahl: d i f e”). Then change the class of travel, date of travel and start/end points to suit. Reservations are not compulsory but are recommended on the Zweisimmen to Montreux leg (which is where the Panoramic and Belle Époque trains operate) during peak tourist season.

    When are you travelling?

    Hi Juliegamble4!

As mentioned by Rockoyster, seat reservations for the Golden Pass aren’t required. If you”ll be traveling in shoulder season, just can just hop on and off. If you do want to arrange for reservations, you can do so here: http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/tickets.

The combination of a 4 day Swiss Travel Pass and a Saver Day Pass sounds feasible, but you’ll have to make calculations to make sure. Once you’ve decided, you can get your passes through

Thank you both for your sound advice x we are coming in June and plan to do some hiking as well

At that time of the year would sturdy walking shoes be ok or would you recommend walking boots, we walk a lot and have both

Also is it worth booking a tour now or is this something we can do when we get there ?

    Many thanks Julie

    Hi Julie,

The type of shoes depend on the type of routes. The easier (mostly at lower altitude) trails can be done on comfortable shoes, but the rocky paths require more sturdy hiking shoes/boots. You’ll find a lot of trail suggestions and practical hiking tips here: http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking.

I’m not sure what kind of tour you’re referring to? Almost all activities in Switzerland can both be booked on the spot or shortly before, as well as online. Our activity pages offer links to book and check prices: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities.
