    Hi Arijit,

    1. I visited Zermatt and Mount Rigi but didn’t go to Mount Pilatus. As Steph is saying, these are very different options to compare. From what I observed, the terrains and mountains were very different in the Lucerne/Interlaken side of the Switzerland vs the ones that you get to see in the Zermatt side. Zermatt is a car-free city and is pretty amazing. We really enjoyed strolling through the city as it is so peaceful. Also, there are two mountain excursions you can do that are near Zermatt which are Gornergrat and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, but may be it will be a lot to fit into one day. You need to check the route and time tables. About Mount Rigi, I liked the route to reach there. It included a boat ride from Lucerne to Vitznau and a train ride that climbs you up to the mountain.

    2. I didn’t go to Glacier 3000. But when I was doing my research, I had found that they have a roller coaster up there that’s called “Alpine Coaster”, may be you should check that out, it seemed interesting. You should also check if it will be operational during the time you will go there and check the time tables on SBB app to find if the trip can be done in one day.

    3. If you go to Mount Rigi or Mount Pilatus then it would involve boat rides in lake Lucerne. You can also do a full circuit of lake Lucerne depending on the amount of time you want to stay in the boat. Other than that, lake Brienze and lake Thun are popular as well which you can visit when you are staying in Wengen. I’d suggest you to research and see what will fit into your itinerary.

Hope you have a fun trip!

    2. See http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/day-trip-to-glacier-3000-near-gstaad. From Luzern it is almost has far, in travel time, as Zermatt. You should let the weather and your willingness to tolerate long train rides guide you in deciding where to go. Be flexible.

    Hello Mahimav 10,

Find Abdul’s thread from BEFORE his trip to Switzerland below.

I of course can’t say if the journey took place one-to-one like above but I’m sure Abdul will comment on this whenever appropriate.

    Best,
    Steph

Sorry for the delayed response Mahimamv 10. Thanks for covering for me Steph.

The final itinerary that we ended up doing is as follows:

Day 1: Arrived Basel in afternoon. From there we went to our stay in Zug. After settling down we took a walk along Lake Zug in the evening, then took a train to Lucerne and explored the city by walking around. We visited the famous Lion Monument in Lucerne, had dinner there and then returned back to our stay in Zug. The days were pretty long when we visited Switzerland in April, so we could fit all this in half a day.

Day 2: We had planned to visit Mount Titlis on this day but the weather forecast was bad and it was snowing even in the city. The forecast of the next day was clear, so we decided to postpone Titlis by one day (which was an excellent decision). We instead went to Mount Rigi and explored some more Lucerne while returning back to Zug.

Day 3: We went to Mount Titlis. It was so beautiful up there on a clear day (which is why postponing it was good decision). We rode Ice Flyer on the mountain and took a trip of Titlis Glacier Cave. We got a chance to explore the town of Engelberg on the way as well. At late evening we took our luggage from Zug and came to our next stay which was in Brienz.

Day 4: Explored Brienz, walked around Lake Brienz. Then we went to Interlaken and walked around there. We tried some Swiss chocolates. Then we went up to Harder Kulm, which is the top of Interlaken.

Day 5: We went to Mount Schilthorn and did a lot of things on the way. I don’t have to write that all down because we just followed this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QXM3VJFrGU. Then we packed our luggage and went to our next stay which was in St. Niklaus.

Day 6: Explored St. Niklaus and then took train to Zermatt. Walked around in Zermatt and did some shopping.

Day 7: Took train to Zurich which was our next and last stay. Explored Zurich in the evening.

Day 8: Explored a lot of Zurich on foot. Saw some beautiful gardens, walked around Lake Zurich, met some awesome people and did some more shopping.

    Day 9: Fly back home.

Thank you Abdul for such detailed information. It is very informative. We are planning in the second week of April. I was curious about the weather in April. How cold it was there?? We will be staying in Wengen and have 5 days so as you mentioned that its better to not to go to the top of Europe then do you think Mount Titlis will serve the purpose of viewing the ice peaks??
