Thanks for all your help on my previous thread.

we are looking at going to Mt Titlis on Tuesday December 3 and Mt Rigi on Friday December 6 from Lucerne.

Whats the best way for me to check weather forecasts for those mountains? It looks like we will have some cloudy days this coming week.

What is the best way to get to each Mountain from Lucerne for December? Are the boats still running? If so, how do I check the schedule for them? We will have a Swiss travel pass for those days.

    Thanks for all your help.

    Hello Malicia,

The MeteoSwiss app or website are great. But both Rigi and Titlis have websites with live webcams. Google them.

You don’t need a boat to get to Titlis.

I am a big fan of the SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi) for checking train, bus, boat and cable way timetables, finding fares* and buying tickets on-line if required. In the unlikely event you don’t have a device capable of running the app then you can use the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B). If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions at http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.

    * The SBB website shows half-fare prices by default, the mobile app allows you to nominate whether to show full or half-fares (by editing the passenger details in settings) and is also smart enough to offer you the Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass) if that offers the best fare. The app can also display a platform map (at least at the larger stations) to help you make connections. It is also super easy to limit the search to specific modes of transport (eg ship for lake boats).

    Hi Malicia,

in addition to Rockoyster’s great answer, at http://www.myswissalps.com/we ather you can read further information on the weather and about the forecasts (http://www.myswissalps.com/we ather/forecast).

I also use the MeteoSwiss app, it has great animation for clouds too (also for rain and temperature). I always check it in the early morning, if I am planning to go on a mountain trip. It is good to know, that usually it is more clear in the morning than in the afternoon. My personal opinion; if there are just a few clouds it makes even more interesting. I hope you will have nice weather though.

Information on Lake Lucerne boat trips can be found at http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakelucerne.

    Have a nice holiday!

Meteo Swiss website for weather, or if you switch the television on in Swiss hotels in the morning there is a channel which shows webcam images for major resorts on a loop.

However, Rigo especially is local to Luzern so the weather forecast where you are staying will cover it. And you can see the Rigi from central Luzern so you will know if it is good weather or not (there will be cloud partially or completely covering Rigi if the weather is poor!)

I think boats are best avoided in December. You can get to all the mountains in the Luzern region by train or other land transport

    Hi Malicia –

A bit belated, and I hope that your trip to Titlis went well.

I like this site for detailed local weather:

You can get to Rigi via boat to Vitznau then the (red) cogwheel train up or by taking a train to Arth-Goldau then taking the (blue) cogwheel train up.

The two train trip is faster, 1h 18m, but the boat/train combination is more scenic, 1h 42m.
