What to do around Spiez and hikes in Zermatt
A traveler is visiting Spiez for 3 nights from Lucerne, planning day trips to Jungfraujoch and the Matterhorn. They’re seeking advice on evening activities in Spiez and options if the weather prevents their planned trips. They also want guidance on the best viewpoints between Sunnegga and Riffelsee, considering they’re traveling with a 3-year-old child.
- Enjoy a lakeside walk in Spiez for evening relaxation after your mountain trips.
- If the weather is bad, consider visiting Bern as an alternative day trip.
- Choose between Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn based on daily weather conditions for the best experience.
- The lakes in Zermatt should not be frozen by early June, making them great for mountain reflections.
- Riffelsee is typically better for views, but Sunnegga is easier to access with a toddler.

Hello,
First I would like to thank the moderators of the forum for helping so many travelers.
I will be in Speiz for 3 nights going from Lucerne from June 2nd to June 5th. I will be spending 1 day for jungfraujoch and 1 day for the matterhorn. I wanted to know if there were any nearby places or activities in Spiez that we could do in the evenings on the 2 days once we have finished our day trips to the mountains?
In this time of the year is it advisable to do both the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and Gornergrat?
I am traveling with a 3 year kid. Keeping the weather in mind, which of the below options are better for the views while going to the matterhorn; Sunnegga or Riffelsee. Will the lake be frozen for a good view and which one is better when traveling with a 3 year child.
Another question that I had was with regards to other day trips that we could do if the weather does not permit trips to jungfraujoch and matterhorn.
Thanks
