Rainy/snowy things to do in Switzerland in Nov
A traveler named robliv is visiting Switzerland from November 23-30 with his wife and 17-year-old daughter. They are concerned about potentially bad weather affecting their itinerary, which includes stops in Luzern, Interlaken, Zermatt, Montreux, and Bern, and are seeking advice on what activities are still worthwhile or if they should consider alternative destinations. They have purchased 8-day Swiss Travel Passes for their trip.
- Check the daily weather forecast before your planned excursions, as conditions can change quickly.
- If it rains, many museums are free with the Swiss Travel Pass, like the Transport Museum in Lucerne and the Ballenberg Swiss Open-Air Museum near Brienz.
- Don't miss the Christmas markets in Montreux, as visiting during light rain means fewer crowds.
- For a backup plan, the cheese factory in Gruyeres and the Olympic Museum in Lausanne are great options for bad weather.

Hey All –
I’m heading to Switzerland next week (Nov 23-30) with my wife and 17 year old daughter. I knew we were chancing bad weather during that time and I’m afraid that we are not going to be lucky with weather with the highs around 1-4 degrees C most of our time there with 60% chance of rain/snow. So we will likely need to modify our itinerary somewhat to accommodate for this kind of weather. Here is what we have so far:
- 2 days in Luzern (explore old town, Mt Rigi)
- 2 days in Interlaken (Towns: Iseltwald, Lauterbrunnen/Murren, Brienz. Mountains: Shilthorn, Harder Klum. Activity: paragliding)
- 1 day in Zermatt (explore the town) …. skip completely if freezing and snowing the whole day?
- 1 day in Montreux (Chillon Castle, other ideas here?)
- 1 day in Bern (explore old town)
We purchased 8 day Swiss Travel Passes to get around. I’m not sure if Mt Rigi or anything in Interlaken can still be on the agenda with the weather, but would love to hear what thoughts you think would be worthwhile or not …. and if there are any other things to do in these cities or whether we should pivot to different cities (Gruyere, etc) that might be more interesting with this weather.
Thank you for any advice!
Cheers,
robliv
